Hans and I have been debating getting a dog for the last 6 months or so. We've visited the pet store way too many times and played with lots of different breeds. We can't decide. Neither of us wants a white fluffy dog. But I do need a hypoallergenic dog. Any suggestions?
I was pretty serious about getting one before we left for Hawaii and thought I didn't care anymore when we got back, but then we went to the pet store again and I saw some cute pug/beagle mix puppies that were cute. But then we came home and I lost the love again. I think what I really want is new carpet. Not a dog. But it's hard to tell.

If you want to do a test run with a puppy for a day, we have a pug that is 12 weeks old. I am not going to tell you to get one. I love love having a dog. But I have 2 kids, I'm not superwoman and running a marathon, and I don't think I am nearly as busy as you! That being said, having a puppy is like having a built in babysitter. As I type this, Percy and Zoey are playing house. She is pushing him around the house in a stroller, and has been for an hour and a half. It is wonderful, and a lot of work. You just have to figure out if its worth it!
I was serious about the test run. Feel free. Percy is a sweet little guy.
The carpet sounds like the better choice to me. But if you do, I think Portugese water dogs are hypoallergenic and also Labradoodles. I've considered getting one because they don't shed. But it's just a passing fancy. I don't think I'll ever do it. Watch Marley and Me before you decide!
They are cute and I do think dogs are so good for kids, it's that unconditional love. Sometimes I will see Tyler sitting on the back steps talking to our dog and our dog is just laying there listening and wagging her tail. If I could do it all again I would make sure that I got one that does not shed. Apparently some dogs (like ours) shed year round, so annoying.
Funny. We keep going back and forth too. It's hard to commit. If I could just find a breed that doesn't bark, pee, shed, poop, bite, chew things or have to go outside in nasty weather...
If/when we someday get a dog, I would like it to be one that has real hair instead of fur, like a labradoodle. I don't know if they're hypoallergenic, but it's probably better than a normal shedding dog. Our kids are dying for one but since the last thing I need is someone else to take care of, I want to make sure they're old enough to really take care of it, so it might be a couple of years.
dont do it!!!
