Maui

Does anyone have any suggestions for what Hans and I should do in Maui? Have you been? Anything we MUST do? We are planning on scuba diving. And I signed up to run the half-marathon that is there. But I'm worried about having too much time to think and miss my kids.
Any ideas?

*ocean kayaks, ocean kayaks ocean kayaks!

Clark & I have been a couple times to HI and loved it - needed lots of extra money, five bucks here and there but worth it. There was always a local dance group on the beach at night if you ask your hotel and the fruit smoothies were incredible - self explanitory. I am super excited for you - you both have waited a LONG time to go and totally deserve to sleep in as LONG as you want!!! I know - foreign huh?!?!

Day or night, sky-watching at Haleakala is a great way to escape the world! Stop at one of the several overlooks on the Park road or take a short walk away from the traffic noise to watch the clouds and see weather forming before your eyes. The visual horizon in many places in the Summit area is up to 115 miles (185km) out to sea. Even cloudy skies can offer amazing sights including rainbows, moonbows and halos seen around your shadow.

With world-class night sky conditions, Haleakala also offers one of the most easily accessible places to watch planets, stars and moons after dark. Rent a pair of 10x50 or 7x50 binoculars at one of the island dive shops, pick up a star map at the Park Headquarters Visitor Center or the Haleakala Visitor Center, and see if you can find the moons of Jupiter.

Sunrise and Sunset can be beautiful from the summit - they can also be miserably cold and wet. Find out more before you plan your trip.

The road to Hana was fun for us. It's not for those that get car sick or have to get there quick. We stopped along the way and hiked around the waterfalls. Once you get to Hana ask a local where the black sand beach is. It's pretty cool.

We also did a dinner cruise when we were there. Kind of pricey but it was fun to be on the boat when the sun was setting. So pretty!

Look online before you go and find a flea market. It's the best and cheapest way to shop for gifts and suoveniers. Plus, there is local food and SO much to see.
